Hyesoo Kim

Hyesoo Kim, a Korean Soprano based in New York City, possesses a stunning quick silver voice that "literally danced through the duet, with all its patter," as praised by Classic Sonoma. Recently, she completed an Artist Diploma at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Professor César Ulloa.

 

Her diverse repertoire includes roles such as Little Daughter in Proving up, Pamina and Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Vitige in Flavio, Hélène in Une éducation manquée, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Musetta in La Bohème, Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, Martha in Martha. Additionally, her scene work features characters such as Leïla in Les pêcheurs de perles, Violetta in La Traviata, Julietta in I Capuleti e I Montecchi, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Margarita in Ainadamar, Silberklang and Madame Herz in Die Schauspieldirektor, and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte.

 

In November 2024, Hyesoo was selected as a participant in a prestigious masterclass led by one of the world's leading baritones, Lucas Meachem. And September 2024, she has been nominated as a candidate to compete in the 60th Concorso Internazionale Voci Verdiane Città di Busseto in Italy. She achieved second place in both the Premiere Opera Foundation International Competition and the Nightingale Opera Theatre Vocal Competition. She was also a finalist in the Vincerò World Singing Competition, and a semi-finalist in the Heartland Sings Vocal Competition, the John Alexander National Vocal Competition (Opera Mississippi), the Washington International Competition, and the Loren L. Zachary Competition. In Korea, she has won several prestigious national competitions, including second place in the 8th Seil Korean Art Song Competition, the grand prize in the 25th Sungjung National Music Concours, the gold prize in the 14thNational Voice Competition, and second place in the 25th Suri Music Competition.

 

Hyesoo has graced the stage as a guest artist with the Oakland Symphony in 2024 and the Santa Rosa Symphony in 2023, and was recognized as a Kumho Young Artist by the Kumho Cultural Foundation in 2019. She holds a Master’s degree in Voice from the Manhattan School of Music and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Voice from Ewha Womans University.
